Latest nuclear power push – deliberately deceptive

Climate change energy options and nuclear power

An opinion piece published in The Australian this week makes a claim that the Construction Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union supports nuclear power. This is deliberately misleading. The Mining and Energy Division within the Victorian branch of CFMMEU has shown support for nuclear power – this does not represent the whole of the CFMMEU.

The support to ban nuclear power is far stronger across the union movement. This is shown through the signatories to a joint statement against nuclear power in 2019. Union signatories include the national peak Union the ACTU, peak unions in Tasmania, WA, SA, Victoria and the ACT.

The rest of the article is the pro nuclear diatribe on the history of why nuclear power has failed to deliver cheap and safe energy.
