Queensland Premier Steven Miles was keen to build on the reputation his government has created in rural parts as a protector of the state’s water assets when he addressed the Rural Press Club of Queensland in Brisbane.
Mr Miles told the Rural Press Club audience the federal Liberal-National coalition plan now for nuclear power was as big a threat to the land and water that agriculture relies on as was its plan to use the artesian basin to store waste CO2.
“Just like we must seize the opportunity to secure our renewable energy future, we also need to ensure Queensland’s future water security,” he said.
